Perform all database administration and some system software support in a
Windows NT, Novell Netware, and Sun server environment. Assist with corporate
right-sizing efforts, porting applications from a Unisys mainframe to local
area networks for a true client-server architecture, either by in-house programming
or the procurement of third party software. Oversee the Internet development
for the TGLO internal and public web site. Have been the acting Director of
Applications Development (twice) for periods of up to a year. Each current

Responsible for design, development and deployment of agency applications
wrapped in browser-based solutions. Developed all flavours of applications including
shopping cart applications and e-commerce solutions for both the agency intranet
and extranet customers. Oversee all internet development, following guidelines
for ADA compliancy, privacy and public information legislation, as well as following
'best practices' methodologies.
Responsible for all Windows NT Servers running Microsoft SQL Server,
NT Servers running Sybase SQL Server, Novell servers running the Sybase NLM,
one Sun server running Ingres, and a mainframe NDMS network database. Perform
installation, upgrades, maintenance, backup strategies, monitor performance,
and tune all databases, database servers and operating systems in all environments.
Maintain and execute maintenance & support agreements with vendors. Provide
support to all developers by applying SQL Server functionality to business rules
and to ensure maximal data integrity through data adherence to business rules.
Have designed, developed and deployed Internet and Intranet solutions that include
automatic FTP of data files to and from other agencies and corporations for
use in SQL Server and corporate applications. Provide technical assistance to
all GLO staff (clients and programmers) during all phases of ongoing projects
and the support of past projects, while adhering to the corporate Software Development
Life Cycle Model.
Responsible for the development of new business applications and
the support of existing applications. Utilizing a client server environment
at TGLO, we use MS Access, MS Visual Basic, PowerBuilder and web development
tools to create front end applications. With executables deployed onto Novell
or Netscape servers, we utilize SQL Server (either MS or Sybase) as our data
sources. We have right-sized our business applications from a mainframe, utilizing
software either developed in-house or purchased 'off-the-shelf'. Coordinate
projects from gathering initial requirements, through deployment and into final
support, utilizing a 'cascade' deployment methodology. These applications extend
to the design and deployment of Internet solutions also. Ensure audibility and
compliance to the TGLO Software Development Life Cycle model through all project
phases. Managed objectives, performance reviews, salaries, interviewing, hiring
and all aspects of employee relations.
Honorable Mentions:
Utilizing Cold Fusion, developed web pages by which our support department
can evaluate SQL Server status so as to verify SQL database availability. Provided
sole NT Server network support for 5 years prior to TGLO hiring an M.C.S.E.
Provided mainframe systems support for 13 years. Have set up a personal Internet
web site. Assist yearly in the development of the Information Systems budget,
the Biennial Operating Plan, Disaster Recovery Plan, Year 2000 Conversion &
Contingency Plan, Legislative Appropriations Request, special ad-hoc Legislative
requests, open records requests received from the general public, contractual
agreements with vendors and other agencies, yadi yadi yadi, and ad infinitum.
April 1979 - August 1983: United Parcel Service, Bryan, Texas
While attending Texas A & M University full time, I supervised
many union and clerical employees and was directly responsible for all morning
sorting and loading operations for a delivery package center of 30 employees.
Coordinated all pre-load activities and pre-delivery planning. In the absence
of the Center Manager I performed those duties as well. After school, I worked
as a mechanic at an local automotive shop.
